The bootleg CD titled Stand Still (also known as “Tokyo ’89”) captures The Stone Roses performing live in Tokyo around 24 or 27 October 1989, presenting a roughly 65-minute set featuring classics like I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Sally Cinnamon and their epic I Am the Resurrection.

According to the long-running fan site’s bootleg guide, the sound quality receives an A grade: the drums and bass are described as “very clear, almost too clear”, guitars distort at times but the overall sonic presentation is strong for a 1989 recording.

Performance-wise, it’s another A, thanks largely to that thunderous rhythm section. Reni and Mani reportedly lock in so tightly they could’ve kept time for an atomic clock, while Squire sprinkles in a few “creative liberties” that only make the whole thing more endearing.

If you’re a fan of the Roses’ live energy and want an unofficial snapshot from their late-80s era, this bootleg comes highly recommended.
