Being one of Stone roses biggest fans you may think that I am deeply upset about the greatest group ever splitting up, but I look on the split in a more positive way. They have left us with 2 glorious unsurpassable LP's as well as numerous brilliant b-sides such as "Standing here", "Mersey Paradise", "What the world is waiting" that would grace any LP.
Its not only the songs that make The Stone Roses so legendary, it is also the memories that they have left behind such as Spike Island, Ally Pally, Paint throwing incidents, Reni's hats, Jackson Pollock style graphics, Feile 95, The Late Show fiasco, Warehouse gigs and the unbelievably awesome awe that they had. Their attitude ,espeacially Ian Browns, set them apart from any one else.
In all the interviews I have read/heard/seen, their beliefs and morals always seem to be right. Ian Brown has influenced me alot and now I look at things in a different, more positive way which can only be a good thing. His famous quotes such as "It's not where youre from, it's where youre at that matters", "Just do what YOU want to do, don't be compromised", "Aim for the stars and you''ll hit the ceiling"etc are really motivating to make people become better, with more peace of mind which is our aim in life.
I had the fortune to meet Mani in the Hacienda last April. He was really friendly and down to earth even though he never knew me. What I am trying to say is that although they have split, they are in my eyes the greatest group ever and nothing can change that.
They realised when it was time to split, unlike The Strolling Bones who were good once but they continue to ruin themselves by releasing drivel.
They have all kept their self respect and they are all looking ahead to new challenges which I can't wait to hear. In the mean time
I will continue to play the timeless songs that they have left us with, thinking WHAT IS GOING TO BE , NOT WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN.
