A truly wonderful night. all made possible by my friend at Geffen records who I met on Saturday night at the Brixton show. For all of those out there who believe all people in the record industry are cut-throat arrogant idiots, this lady will make you think again. She is kind, considerate and above all, GENUINE. What a star.
Anyway, she blagged me and my mate onto the guet list for the gig, and we had the time of our lives. The set list was the same as for all the other shows, although the gig itself had a far looser feel to it. Compared with Brixton on Saturday night, the whole band seemed far more relaxed and willing to experiment.
When Ian screwed up the vox to Love Spreads, the rest of the band pulled it all together, and even Mr Brown himself improvised a flash new ending to the song. Cool stuff.Highlights were numerous, but here are a few - Nigel's b.vox in Waterfall: easily as good as Reni's. Robbie's drumming: yeah, so he's not Reni, but his harder style is much better suited to the band's new harder sound. John Squire: he is god. Simple as that. Ian Brown - the boy can sing, despite reports to the contrary. Even on the more mellow stuff: Your Star Will Shine is genuinely moving.
Best songs: Intro to I Wanna Be Adored - when Mani's bass sidles out of the speaker, you get a major attack of the goose pimples. Yowsa. TSLS - great stuff. Breaking Into Heaven - ROCKS. And of course, I Am The Resurrection.A wonderful show, and best of all my mate was completely converted to a Stoned Rose by the end of the gig, and he only knew a handful of their songs before tonight!
Actually, maybe best of all was when Ian, Robbie and Mani came out after the show, mingled with the kids and signed my Begging You 12". Cool. No sign of Mr Squire though - I am told he is something of a recluse, but I would love to meet the guy, just to thank him for some of the best songs ever written and the best shows I have ever seen.
Second Coming?
It's like they have never been away.

Well, where do I begin.Monday night had to be one of the best gigs I've ever been to. A friend and I touted for tickets and managed to get a couple for £20, probably the best spent £20 ever. The crowd was great, there was no under the age of 21 and loads of very fit-but indie birds.
See you all on the 29th.
