Subject: ROSES LIVE IN SYDNEY (ENMOR THEATRE) OCTOBER 2
I hope you accept negative reviews because I was dissaponted.
I've been a fan of the Roses since their first album released in the hey-day of Manchester music. Their fusing of dance, funk and melodic rock was outstanding. Second Coming was OK also. Hence I couldn't wait to see them in Sydney.
Sadly they were shite, Squire is indisbutably a great guitaris but he sounds so derivative I felt like I was witnessing a junior Jimmy Page - not bad in itself but not remotely original. Ian Brown's voice is painful at times - I'm not expecting a classic singing voice but Brown's atonal , tuneless dirge-like voice grated something fierce.
There was a good mixture of old and new and a (yawn) 'unplugged' set in the middle that had them sounding so much like Led Zepellin it was beyond a joke.
I think this break's done them no good. I could go on but you get the genral feeling - dissapointed but haven't give up yet.
Last night I saw a caberet act - and went home feeling cheated.
I'll be seeing the Fannies soon in Sydney and would love to catch Oasis that's if they can get their arses in to gear and get out to this fine country.

We were at the front row of the Stone Roses gig at the Enmore Theatre on Monday Night. It was excellent we waved our chuppa chups at Ian and Mani was going off. We are very disappointed that you didn't play Fool's Gold. But we still love you!!! Come back soon. Next time can you whip out your cocks.
