"Made of Stone" is a single from the self-titled debut album. The song appeared on the UK singles chart on six distinct occasions (1989, 1990, 1996, 2009, 2017, and 2022), reaching its highest position at No. 20.

The band made their national British television debut with this song on the BBC's The Late Show in September 1989. During the performance, a power outage occurred one minute into the song, leading lead singer Ian Brown to leave the stage, expressing his frustration with the venue.

The song was featured in the 1997 American film "Heaven or Vegas" and the 2005 PSP video game "World Tour Soccer".

The B-side of "Made of Stone," titled "Going Down," references Jackson Pollock's "No. 5, 1948." Pollock's artwork inspired the cover art created by guitarist John Squire for both the single and the album.

The 12" vinyl and CD B-side "Guernica" is a reversed mix of the title track, featuring John Squire's additional guitar parts and Ian Brown singing phonetically reversed lyrics of "Made of Stone" over the original vocals. This creates a new droning vocal effect that occasionally forms recognizable words. The vocal effect suggests that the "lyrics" of "Guernica" are unrelated to those of "Made of Stone," but when played in reverse, the resemblance becomes apparent.
