"Sally Cinnamon" emerged in 1987 as the band's dynamic second single, just prior to bassist Mani joining the group. Although it was not included in their debut studio album two years later, it made a significant impact. The single quickly ascended the UK Indie Chart in June 1987, captivating audiences for an impressive thirty-nine weeks and reaching the number three position. Upon its re-release in 1989, it entered the UK Singles Chart, maintaining a seven-week presence and achieving a peak position of number 46.
During the re-release, the band decisively refused to produce a video for their former label. The label proceeded with their own version, prompting the band to take a bold stand in January 1990. They entered the label's offices, splattering paint throughout, including on Paul Birch, and caused damage to several vehicles. This incident led to a legal case, resulting in a £6,000 fine and a prohibition from the label's premises.
