Waterfall – Single Overview

  • “Waterfall” was released as the fourth single from The Stone Roses (their 1989 debut album), on 30 December 1991 by Silvertone Records. It reached no_27 on the UK Singles Chart.

  • The single versions were different mixes from the album track—remixed by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne for the single release.

7-inch Vinyl (Silvertone ORE 35)

Format Details

  • Standard 7″ single format, typically 45 RPM.

Tracklist

  1. “Waterfall” (7″ version) – 3:31

    • This is a shorter remix of the album track, tailored for radio/7″ format.

  2. “One Love” (7″ version) – 3:40

    • The B-side is the edited/remixed version of “One Love” by Adrian Sherwood.

Notes

  • The 7″ version trims the song down from the full album length and is the format most people would have heard on radio or saw in shops.

12-inch Vinyl (Silvertone ORE T 35)

Format Details

  • The 12″ single typically features extended or dance-oriented mixes.

Tracklist

  1. “Waterfall” (12″ version) – 5:23

    • A longer remix of the track (by Oakenfold & Osborne), with extended instrumental sections and a more expansive arrangement compared to the 7″ version.

  2. “One Love” (12″ version) – 7:10

    • Extended remix of “One Love,” again by Adrian Sherwood—a more dub-style and expanded take on the B-side.

CD Single (Often Included Both)

Many CD single versions combined both formats:

  • “Waterfall” (7″ version) – 3:31

  • “One Love” (7″ version) – 3:40

  • “Waterfall” (12″ version) – 5:23

  • “One Love” (12″ version) – 7:10

About the Remixes

Remix Credits

  • Waterfall remixes (both 7″ and 12″ versions) were worked on by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne—bringing a slightly more dancefloor/extended feel than the album version.

  • One Love remixes were done by Adrian Sherwood.

Context

  • These versions were designed to capitalize on the crossover between indie rock and the burgeoning Madchester/dance scene, which was part of The Stone Roses’ sound and appeal at the time.
